As we will see in a few chapters, President Johnson (LBJ) was a very controversial figure in regards to the Vietnam War. His foreign policies, and his tendency to not tell the whole truth, caused him a lot of problems.
One of the brighter spots in his administration was his determination to help the underprivileged in America. He called his program "The Great Society".

When there comes a situation with poverty I believe the Federal government should step in to help eliminate poverty. The federal government should step in and supply jobs and help fund the people in need. I believe that the Federal government should not step in too much because then the people will be using them and not trying to help themselves. One benefit to the Federal government helping a little is that people can help their family and get started and soon get to their own feet and benefit from it. Lastly, it can help kids especially with school and to get them started so they won't be in poverty for the future. (Word Count:113)

Personally when thinking about the whole situation at hand I believe the federal government should have a hand in regulating the poverty problem. They should be doing what they think would be right and best for the people by creating more opportunities to help supply the needs going on and help prevent the problem. The government should come up with a plan of action like helping people with more jobs to help more. They need to have a whole economic plan going on with it all. This is a problem that they need to help fix and regulate the whole situation being brought on.(105)

Part 2:
I do think that the federal government should be responsible for eliminating poverty. The first reason why I think this because it really should be the federal government’s job to get rid of poverty. The second reason is that we Americans ourselves could not be able to get rid of poverty alone without the governments help. Also the third reason is because getting rid of poverty basically should be a federal government priority because poverty does involve Americans and the federal government is a part of America. Also because it would be difficult for let’s say the White House or something along that line to get the poverty “problem” dealt with. (111)

Paragraph on “eliminating poverty”
No body wants poverty. No body wants to be poor. So I think that the Federal Government should be responsible for eliminating poverty. We have came a long since our trip over to New America on the Mayflower. We have been strong and unified. Just letting the poor stay poor and not doing anything to help them is horrible. Thank God for Medicaid so that the poor today are able to do things like get a physical, check up, dentist and etc. But there can’t be too much help or else it’ll be bad for all of us. So the Federal Government should take responsibility.

Eliminating poverty
I believe the Federal government should totally be the one to step in and be held responsible for completely eliminating poverty. The Federal government should be the only ones to be able to eliminate poverty because if all of the people of America try to step in and do it themselves, it will not turn out well at all for anyone. We need the government's help with poverty being eliminated. I think the federal government needs to just come together and agree and come up with ideas to help out the poor people and their families as much as they can. (101 words)

Eliminating poverty
I honestly think the federal government should be the ones to be held responsible for eliminating poverty and no one else. I think the government should deal with this problem on their own. I think they should create jobs to help with people that are poor to help with their families and help with paying things off they are not able to. They need to create many more opportunities for everyone dealing with poverty. I don’t think people should try and step in to eliminate poverty by themselves because it will not work, the government should take over and deal with it effectively. (103 words)

The federal government should most definitely be responsible for eliminating poverty. They are “in charge” of the people in the states. If they want to succeed they can’t have high poverty rates, not to mention it’s their country and they should try to help take care of the people living in it. All people, poor or not should have access to health insurance & ability to go to a doctor, basic procedures done, and just have a few simple things to help them live. If not the people end up getting much worse then it would have been because of the circumstances they are in. Also, Medicare is something they should most definitely have for the elderly. Some people may not have family or anyone to look after them and take care of them and this gives them the opportunity to have good health insurance even when you are unable to work and pay for it yourself. Wow! America has come a long way! Poverty is a devastating thing and topic. It’s heartbreaking. I cannot imagine being in a position, where I wouldn’t be able to eat so my kids could. My grandparents were in that situation. For example, when my mother was a little girl, her and her siblings had food but my grandparents had to eat ketchup and mustard because they had nothing. Sadly, that’s not even the lowest levels of poverty. As people, we’re supposed to help those in need. Whatever the need may be, we’re needed to be the aid. People are longing and searching for people to reach out to them. In all honesty, when asked the question, “should the federal government be responsible to eliminate poverty?” I’m in awe, I personally think that not only the government but also the people should help. It’s all out of love. As Americans, and humans on this Earth; we’re family and family is supposed to help one another. To explain, say you see your brother stumble. Are you going to let him stumble more, or are you going to try your best pick him back up? To conclude, my answer is yes but also there’s more. The citizens should also help. We’re a family and a family is there for each other. (218) proverbs 3:27
P.s: there are other verses regarding those in need.

I believe that federal government should be responsible for eliminating poverty. The reason is because many people were being helped through it and now they don’t have something to help them. Also the government is in charged of all the nation and that means the poor too and since they are in charged they should look out for the poor and help them. If the government wants to get out of poverty and succeed as a nation then you have to start out by getting rid of the problem which in this case helping the poor get out from a critical life or death situation, everyone needs food and a good health to be able to survive and if you don’t have those then you will eventually die. Young and old should be helped by the government and they shouldn’t just focus on the wealthy. (147)

LBJ created a Job Corps for 100,000 disadvantaged men. Half would work on conservation projects and the other half would receive education and skills training in special job training centers. He also tasked states and local governments with creating work training programs for up to 200,000 men and women. A national work study program was also established to offer 140,000 Americans the chance to go to college who could otherwise not afford it. But I however do not think that the government is to thank for “eliminating” poverty, because it is still a ongoing issue to this day. (101)
