Follow this link. What are the Bill of Rights? Describe in detail. Also, follow this link, and read the ten Bill of Rights. In addition to, describe if you think the Bill of Rights are or are not applicable for today's society. Back up your reasoning.
The Bill of Rights was written by James Madison. The Bill of Rights was in response to calls from several states for greater constitutional protection for individual liberties. The Bill of Rights also lists specific things on governmental power. Do I think the Bill of Rights are applicable? Yes, yes I do. Starting with the very first one. Congress should not be able to make ANY laws about your religion! You have the freedom to be able to worship Christ if you want to! However, with the second one, I think it should be that they can only carry weapons if you have, for example, a guns license. Yes, we need to be able to defend ourselves, but we also need to be careful! I also agree all the down to number ten, just because these specific things are listed in the Constitution, does not mean you do not have any other rights! You see, if we made a new Constitution, they might put in there that the rights that are in it, are your only rights! And we do not want that! Now, back up to number three, we do not have to let soldiers live in your house. Well, since we do not really have war in the states now, that is not really applicable; however, if a war does break out, we will need that! You never know what God is going to do! (Jeremiah 29:11 ) Anyway, I think the Bill of Rights is pretty applicable, even if we do not have war going on near us. We need all these other rights, I mean, how would you like it if someone came and searched your body or your house without any reason or no telling of a judge? I sure would not! Or would you like to stay in jail for two years, then finally be trialed?! I do not think so! (317)
ReplyDeleteThe Bill of Rights is a part of the constitution consisting of 10 amendments. They were James Madison because many states wanted a better security of their liberties. His writings were greatly influenced by those of George Mason mainly The Virginia Declaration of Rights. A big reason the Bill of Rights was added was because the anti-federalists wouldn't approve the constitution without a Bill of Rights to protect their freedoms. To begin Madison made changes to the actual Constitution. However, he was soon stopped because several representatives said Congress couldn't make changes to the Constitution. So any changes that he did make turned into 17 House-approved amendments. The Senate approved 12 of them, and later on the states approved 10 of them. The Bill of Rights is still in authority today, but when you read them they aren't all as they seem. For instance, Freedom of Speech doesn't mean you need to go and cuss everyone and their cousin out. It simply mean you can say your opinion of things. Another thing is Freedom of Religion. Nowadays the problem is kind of with Christianity. People can say stuff about Christians that is Freedom of Speech. Christians say stuff back and it's wrong. So when people say freedom, but they really mean freedom with limits.(214)
ReplyDeleteTHE BILL OF RIGHTS:
ReplyDeleteTo be simple the Bill of Rights was a list of amendments or rights which each citizen of the United Sates of America has and respects. But if i were to go into detail i would have start by saying that the Bill of Rights was a very good idea, so this new country wouldn't turn into Britain. These amendments were written by James Madison, many states liked it because it protected there citizens personal rights. Although most states liked the amendments New Jersey was the first to ratify it, and Virginia the last.
I think the Bill of rights fits our time period but there are a few that could be changed to totally fit the 21st centenary. Like 2&3 in 2 they could change the part about the state militia, and in 3 the part about quartering soldiers in your house in a time of war, but over all the Bill of Rights is pretty spot on. (164)
The Bill of Rights was written by James Madison. This document was considered as the ten amendments to the Constitution. One of the many ideas of contention between the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists is the lack of support of the Bill of Rights. I think the Bill of Rights are applicable to society today. The only amendment that I think doesn't apply to society today od the third amendment. This amendment states that you don't have to let soldiers into your house, unless there is a war, and even then congress has to pass a law about it. The only reason this amendment doesn't apply to America today is because we don't go into war that often. Other than the third one though I think all amendments apply to society today. The one that I think applies most today is the second one about carrying firearms. The reason for this is because so many people want the right to carry a firearm. (162)
ReplyDeleteBill of Rights. Written by James Madison in response to calls from several states for greater constitutional protection for individual liberties, the Bill of Rights lists specific Attributes on governmental power. The Virginia Declaration of Rights, written by George Mason, strongly influenced Madison. I think the Bill of Rights are applicable to today's time period, because one of the biggest problems i see in todays world is judging people by their religion and The Bill of Rights says that they can't make any laws about Religion. People are free to worship any kind of religion they chose to. But i think that #3 should be changed if a soldier is willing to sacrifice their life for our country the least we could do is give them a roof to live under
ReplyDeletethe bill of rights was written by james Madison. he wrote them because the public wanted more rights as a regular citizen to ensure the govt. could not control them like Britian did. They were afraid of Monarchs so they established the 10 rights to allow freedom of religion, no excessive bail from jail, etc. this is extremely helpful today and keeps Christiananity especially around, with some pres. they would want all Christians gone, or the religion outlawed, but the rights protected it. the right to carry a weapon as a citizen is another, this is a huge deal and allows armed citizens to protect themselves, I believe all of the rights are applicable today in this society. ReplyDeletethe Bill of rights author new they cry for a document that will protect the rights of the citizens. James Maddison wanted to do this so that the public's rights would not be stolen from them as they did in Britain. the people were scare of the government coming into their lives and taking their rights from them. some people wanted to have religion and some didn't. religion could not be taken from people by the government because their right of religion was protected. some of the citizens wanted to protect themselves. they could bare arms as a person for protection. the people of america wanted to have these rights protected because they did not want any of the rights taken from them. I defiantly think that these documents are applicant today.

The Bill of Rights is a list of limits on the government’s power. It is made up of 10 amendments in the Constitution. The Bill of Rights was written by James Madison. It was written because several states wanted a greater protection for individual liberties from the constitution. The Virginia Declaration of Rights greatly influenced James Madison to write the Bill of Rights. I think the Bill of Rights is still applicable today except for 2 rights. First, I don’t think that the 1st right is applicable today. The 1st right states Congress can’t make any law about your religion, or stop you from practicing your religion, or keep you from saying whatever you want, or publishing whatever you want. This does not apply to today because in public schools, they don’t let you pray or worship God. Second, I don’t think the 3rd right applies to today. The 3rd right states that you don’t have to let soldiers live in your house, except if there is war, and even then only if Congress has passed a law about it. This does not apply to today because there usually is not war in America, so we almost never have to house a soldier. Besides these 2 rights everything else is still applicable today. (214)
ReplyDeleteThe bill of rights are the first 10 amendments to the constitution written by James Maddison. It was said that they couldn't be taken away from us and they are rights to all American citizens. They are right made to protect. But if you do something that you shouldn't some of them could be taken away from you personally. I think that all of these bills do apply to us now especially the 2nd. They are basic freedoms that we deserve. The second is most importaint because of the fact that with out weapons to the good citizens we are in trouble. If we can't bear arms how do they think that we will protect our selves?(118)
ReplyDeleteThe Bill of Rights are the first ten Amendments of the Constitution. They were written by James Madison. They were written because of the states wanting a greater protection of rights. It is a limit on the government powers. This Bill of Rights was one of the main disputes between the Federalists, and the Antifederalists. I think the Bill of Rights is still applicable in today’s society for many reasons. One reason is all of the argument about the second amendment. Obama is like we should limit guns, and everybody says NO, that is an infringement on my rights. And then, news has been released on that the CIA has been torturing people. That is an infringement on the 7th amendment. Then again, those people weren’t actually American citizens.(130)
ReplyDeleteThe Bill of Right is pretty much one big rule telling us what we can and cannot do. They were written by James Madison. They made these laws so that we would be protected and to make are country a better place. The Bill of Right is very important to our country because without it there would be no order in this country people could do anything or say anything they wanted. Well there is already freedom of speech so that really would not matter. So yes I do think that we need the Bill of Rights so that are country is safe and protected. (105)

ReplyDeleteThe first 10 amendments of the U.S. Constitution are the Bill of Rights written by James Madison. It’s for greater protection of our individual rights. They are rights that cannot be taken. Without it there would be no limits to the government’s power. We wouldn’t have freedom as a citizen without our own rights. So I think the Bill of Rights is applicable to today’s society because we have our own rights, liberties, and beliefs that make us free. For example, Today the Bill of Right gives the freedom of speech to speak up for what’s right. It also gives us the right to bear arms and protect ourselves.(109)

ReplyDeleteJames Madison is the author of the first ten amendments of the Constitution, which are known as the Bill of Rights (BOR). The BOR document is what gave the “concrete” liberties for each individual citizen of America. Of course, as discussed before, the idea of a BOR was a dispute between the feds and anti-feds because it would limit the power of the government. Despite that, though, it was added to Article VII of the Constitution, and we still use the same document in our government today.
ReplyDeleteHOWEVER, I do not think that WE as Americans have been using the golden rule when it comes to the BOR today. Americans tend to refer to the BOR ONLY when it benefits THEMSELVES. It’s not about everyone’s rights anymore but about what one person wants-when-they-want-it. For example, the very first amendment discusses the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. Why then would it be that when a Christian wants to pray at a school, share the gospel with someone, hand out a track, form a small group, or anything related to Christianity, they get in trouble? Isn’t it their right? But no, “that doesn’t apply at public schools.” My main problem with something like that is that someone can say all they want about a Christian, but when a Christian does the Jesus thing and acts nice, spreading the word, he or she gets chastised for respectfully giving an explanation.
The BOR is still alive in many other ways, but I feel as if America has forgotten about Number 1, which has to be the most important out of all. Well, an argument could be made for Number 2. Now it is illegal in many states to have a gun or rifle in the back of your car…or anywhere period! How stupid can you get? You mean to tell me that no one will own one anyways? People deserve the right to have weapons to defend themselves. I understand that state govts. are trying to decrease the rate of deaths by fired arms, but guess what. It happens anyways. Some amendment if we can’t even trust it. If you ask me, the Anti-federalists are still here. They just have a different name. That’s all I have to say.
