From Prison to Absolute Control: Rise of Hitler

For this week's blog, do some research on the life of Hitler. Notice his early struggles and his rise to controlling Germany by the 1930s.

In the comments...

1) Create a 10 point timeline of Hitler's life that you think covers the most significant events in his life that lead him from being a WW1 soldier to leader of Germany. Each point should have a date and a brief explanation of what happened in his life at that time. This section must be at least 100 words.

2) Write a 100 word paragraph answering this question: "What was it about Hitler's personality and/or ideas that allowed him to gain as much power as he did over the German people?".

    ~Paragraph~
Hitler's personality allowed him to gain the power over the Germans by the way that he talked which was manipulative and he had a personality of leadership. Hitler made empty promises, that didn’t make a change, he believed in the conspiracy theory of Jewish people destroying the Germans. Hitler promised that he could restore the law and bring things back to order. The way he would do that is using his political party Nazis, at a time the Nazis were actually banned and Hitler had to serve jail time, the reason why they were banned is because they tried to overthrow the government. Many people believed that WWI could have been won if the army wasn’t destroyed by politicians and protesters, this led Hitler into believing that the fault of all the Great Depression and losing WWI was the Jews. Hitler would consult with anti-Semitic people, this where people who were hostile to or prejudiced against Jews. Sadly many Germans including Hitler viewed Jews as outsiders. Hitler's crowd increased as the Jews became successful. The Germans feared that they would be overthrown. In Hitler's younger days he studied people that were very good at propaganda such as Lueger. He was a politician who he strongly agreed with.(Anti-Semitic) Hitler had a sad past he had a pattern in his life of things going wrong which lead him into always being sad, depressed, fearful and angry. I believe that this lead him to hating people and blaming others. Both of his parents died when he was young and he struggled in school because he was lazy and acted like he didn’t care. Hitler begin to practice bad deeds on other people, such as his teachers. He would prank them and make fun of them when they were really trying to help him. Hitler said he first became an anti-Semite in Vienna, which had a large Jewish community, including Orthodox Jews who had fled the pogroms in Russia. (Age 16) Two years later his mother died from breast cancer he blamed the doctor, Edward Bloch, who was Jewish. Hitler without knowing killed parts of his ancestors because his grandfather was Jew.

Hitler was a nice man himself but had cruel ways. He was just an average person that people looked up to until he started killing millions of Jews. There were obviously a lot of people who went against his ways but there were also people who agreed with what he was doing. Many people like to disintegrate him as less than a human for what he did. Yes I agree what he did was horrible and cruel but the reason he had so much power was because of the man he was. He wasn’t all that cruelty and actually was more human than people give credit to him. He had a way for the people, at least those who weren't jews, and they looked up to him and saw him as a powerful figure and went with what he did. (141)

1925- Hitlers book Mein Kampf is published.

1933- Adolf Hitler was sworn in as Chancellor who he was appointed by Hindenburg.

Hitlers personality got him through the ranks and ultimately made him rise to power. I think his teen years were very hard because his father died when he was thirteen and then when he was about eighteen his mother died. I think that Hitler writing his book Mein Kampf also got him to power because it sort of got him popular even though it did not sell well at first until he became the chancellor of Germany. I also think that his goals that he had set while coming to leader made him appreciated by most of the German people. ( 100 Words)

I think Adolf Hitler was able to gain so much power because of how manipulative and he was able to capture anyone’s attention because of how great of a speaker he was. He promised the disenchanted a way better life and a new, glorious Germany, but that wasn’t the case. Hitler did the complete opposite that he said he was going to do. I think once he achieved fame and popularity, he was able to cover up his rather “off-putting” personality with media images of a cultured gentleman beloved by children and animals. He had very few genuine friends, and a bloated view of his own intellect. (107 words)

Hitler was a very motivated and determined man. Despite many positions where he failed, he found the opportunity to rise in something else. Nothing changed his mind. He went through a lot more than an average person and yet nothing could stop the way he could easily manipulate people. Hitler never stopped wanting more. At times he could peacefully resolve conflicts but usually he would just invade the country. Hitler strived to unite all of the German- speaking countries. He committed genocide of many minorities but mainly the Jews. Hitler suffered through prison, he suffered through war, he suffered through temporary blindness, but his only true defeat was himself when him and his wife committed suicide together . (117)

His ideas gave Germany the inspiration and ideas of a successful country, Hitler wanted to make something out of Germany and people could see that in his his “drive” as a person. All we saw when we saw Hitler was a terrible person but Germany saw him as a second chance.(109)
