This war was mainly called the forgotten war because of the public attention and because no body talked about this war. Also because this war was not as big as world war 2 and the Vietnam war. Plus those two wars got so much more public attention. Maybe their wasn’t that many newspapers or cartoons to show what was going on in this war. Bu this was an important war and a big war to.

ReplyDelete1. The homeland of the Korean people was seized by Japan in 1910 until Japan was defended in 1945. It was a very cruel occupation.
2. In 1945, the Soviets sent their army in Russia into Korea from the north, and the United States sent their army from Japan to South Korea. An agreement was made to halt these two allied armies at the the 38th parallel, cutting the country in half.
3. The Soviets set up a communist form of government in North Korea under Kim Li Sung as leader. The United States allowed South Korea to establish their own government and they ended up with a non-communist leader, Sigmund Rhee.
4. China, who shares a border with Korea to the north, is also a communist country under their revolutionary leader, Mao Zedong. Mao supported the communist leader in the North as both were Communist.
5. The United States supported the non-communist leader in the South even though he was not a good leader.
6. On June 25, 1950, the much stronger army in northern Korea invaded the territory of southern Korea which had a much weaker army. The Unitied Nations met and agreed to support the Korean government in the south.
7. The army from North Korea was able to overrun much of the south all the way to the southeastern corner in an area called the Pusan Perimeter.
8. The United States sent troops from Japan to southern Korea to support the United Nations. The United States army and all UN troops were under the command of General Douglas MacArthur.
9. In September, MacArthur conducted a risky landing around the invaders, and at Incheon on the west coast (and near Seoul) to disrupt the enemy supply lines.
10. The UN army pushed the North, but then China sent a huge army to support them. Everybody agreed to stop fighting at the 38th parallel and that is where it stands today under an Armistice.
If the Korean Conflict is so important to the history of the U.S., why is it a “forgotten” war?
The citizens of the United States, who had just fought in a world war, the second one of the century, were tired of war. They wanted to celebrate their win, which they did. But, now this Korean Conflict between Koreans in the north and Koreans in the south appeared to be an internal matter and none of their concern. The soldiers and sailors of WWII were tired of fighting and the new recruits did not see the reasoning as to why they should be involved. Anyone that had anything to do with the two world wars just wanted to “forget.” (100)
1.The korean war started on june 25, 1950
ReplyDelete2.The korean war had a lot of casualties over 5 million people died
3.The korean war was the first military action of the cold war
4.The korean war was never seen as more than “police action”
5.During the korean war there were more prostitutes
6.The U.S army used 1,500 dogs in the korean war
7.86,300 korean war vets were women
8.Many soldiers died due to frostbite during the war
9.The world's first jet dogfight occurred during the war
10. The U.S kept troops in south korea incase NK invaded
The korean war is probably viewed as a forgotten war as the main focus during the cold war was russia and if they were going to do anything since americans feared that since the russians were building more powerful missiles that we were not the only country with nukes so it was viewed as a waiting game and who was going to send nukes to the other country first. The korean was a huge part of the cold war but overlooked because of russia and the fear behind knowing that we were not the only ones with nukes anymore. Looking back at it it was pointless and everyone was sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for russia to strike first and likewise for russian people waiting for us to send missiles. (105)
1.Japanese people forced Koreans to do labor and be prostitutes
ReplyDelete2.Syngman Rhee won the election in the south because it was rigged

5.The North army was bigger than the south army so they steam rolled them for a bit.
6.North Korea captured off of the Korean Peninsula except for a corner
7.The battle was at a stalemate for several months in this time America built troops and got ready to fight under general Mcarther
8.The war was a very back and forth war do to people spreading themselves too thin
9.September 15th sent a flank under general Mcarther what took back basically all of the land threat they lost to Korea
10.Chinese sent secret army that were forced to freeze so they would not be caught but if they didn’t freeze than they would be shot basically
I feel that the war is a forgotten war because it was not a very action packed war like some of the wars have been. I say this because the war was basically either a stalemate or one person is taking a bunch of land then getting flanked and losing it all back to the enemy. I also think that the war is forgotten because of all the other terrible things that happened around its decade like World War II. We just recently got out of that and are still recovering/figuring out what to do. In conclusion I believe that so much went on around it that we overlook it. (111)

9. The Korean war basically went into a game of risk.
10. The rest of the Korean war essentially a back and forth between the Communists in the North, which was supported by the Chinese, and the Americans in the south. (171)
The Korean war was most defintely important to many people and places but it is known as the forgotten war. That would most likely be becayse it was overshaddowed. It came right exactly after World War two and was also very well overshaddowed by the Vitenman war. The Korean war also only lasted around 3 years so it seems to not have that much signifigance until you actually dig into it and realize just how important it was and how much the US had to do with it. Truman was President at the time of this war had neglected to even car it a war but a conflict. When you compare it number, time, and geography wis it really cannot compare to all the other going on around at the same time. (132)
1Korea used to be occupied by the Japanese military until the end of WW2
ReplyDelete2The Japanese were awful to the Korean people, forcing labor and trying to eradicate their language and culture.

4Russia make Kim Ill Sung the leader of North Korea.
5Not meant to be two separate countries.
6Syngman Rhee leads South Korea.
7Civil war in China that made communists come into power.
8The northern Koreans take control over most of southern Korea until they get to where the US is occupied.
9United States flanks around North Korea and does an amphibious landing at Inchon.
10Truman couldn’t keep McAurther under control so he had to dismiss him.
I think the reason that the Korean War is forgotten among many is because it took place right in between WW2 and Vietnam and at the end of the entire war everything was back to where it was right before the war. In Vietnam we sent soldiers over there and were losing and never retreated because of the government wanting money and countless Americans were being killed and weren’t allowed to do anything and in WW2 it effected literally the whole world. But in the Korean War the only people it effected was Korea really the US just held back North Korea and it was over. So although it was huge for Koreans and probably not forgotten there at all, it isn’t remembered as well here because of its timing and minimal effects on us.(135)
A collection of 10 thins that I found the most interesting while researching the Korean War were :
ReplyDelete1. The war was ontoannly between north and South Korea which was interesting to me Becuase I had previously thought that North Korea had jsut become a big deal in the public’s eyes as of recently when in actuallity it seems like we’ve been involved with them for much longer then I thought.
2. North Korea had the support of China and the Soviet Union and South Korea had the the support of the United Nations mostly from the United States.
3. The war began on June 25 1950 whereas North Korea invaded South Korea.
4.The Korean War was among the most destructive conflicts of the modern era, with approximately 3 million war fatalitie
5 has the largest proportional civilian death toll than World War II or the Vietnam War due to massacres.
6 both countries are technically still at war due to no peace treaty.
7 the Korean War is the first step in the Cold War against communism (the red scare)
8.both supporters do the 2 sides attempted to assimilate the Koreans respectively.
9 The Korean War brought about the first dogfight with jets
10. The territories were divided at the 38th parallel
The Korean War is considered “forgotten obviously due to the fact it’s not spoke of. The reasonings for such being the fact it doesn’t carry as much significance as other commonly spoken of Wars in the US. The factors which determine a Wars importance being : controversy,US involvement , direct coin sequences , and bragging rights. Being that America was entirely against communism and seeming not caring about what we did against it in Korea its safe to assume it wasn’t all that controversial as well as the fact not many US soldiers saw combat in it and no one definately won therefor making it forgotten.(318)
