Perhaps one of the greatest contributions America made to the WW2 era was actually after the fighting concluded.
In 1948, three years after the war concluded, President Truman authorized a massive spending bill we've come to know as the Marshall Plan.

The Marshall Plan was a plan that was put together by president Truman to help aid Europe. The plan was put into act in 1945 and went on for a solid 2 years of non-stop funding going to Europe. When the plan went to congress it passed almost unanimously and was put into effect almost immediately. We ended up throughout this plan paying Europe 13.3 billion dollars but it was for a good cause so they could rebuild their economy and continent. So in conclusion we came up with the Marshall Plan to aid Europe through a time in need. (101)
ReplyDeleteI believe America did have a moral obligation to help Europe with the Marshall plan and I feel it benefitted America greatly. The Marshall Plan not only helped Europe’s economy at the time but it also helped America’s economy because of the goods being bought and shipped through the Atlantic. I also feel by us helping Europe that we were willing to count on them if we ever needed them in an act of war or something I see this because we helped them in a time of need so they should also help us if we had a time of need. I also believe that we felt obligated due to the fact we told everyone to be passive words communism and not start anything but do not take it up. (132)
Your first this time. Good job
DeleteOn April 3, 1948, President Harry S Truman signed the Economic Recovery Act of 1948. Also known as the Marshall Plan, named for Secretary of State George Marshall, who proposed that the United States should provide economic assistance to restore the economic infrastructure of postwar Europe. Europe was devastated by years of conflict. Millions of people had been killed. We wanted to try and Rebuild their economy. Not only that but also Rebuild their currency but that’s not all we also wanted to Foster free trade with Europe using the Marshall Plan. This was beneficial for them and also beneficial for us to help them with these three things. (109)
ReplyDeleteI believe that we did have some obligation to help Europe with their needs during this time period reason being is that we were also apart of ww2 and we saw what kind devastation ww2 did to other countries and it was very bad. Also because I think we wanted to look like the good guys and this would make us better. Also this was very beneficial to us because we got to foster free trade with them which was beneficial to us because we got goods from them and they got goods from us. Also with the thinking of if we help them in their time of need in which we did, they would help us if we needed also hoping that if there was another war they would side with us and be are Allie.(137)
The marshall plan was an act to help finance the rebuilding of western europe. It was enacted in 1948 and provided 15 billion dollars to help rebuild after the war. George C. Marshall is the U.S secretary whom the bill was named after. It was designed as a four year plan to reconstruct cities and infrastructure that was heavily damaged during the war and to remove the trade barriers from many countries including those involved in the war. Another goal of the marshall plan was to help stop the spread of communism through foreign countries, this was very crucial during this time. (103)
ReplyDeleteYes and no. America did not have a moral obligation to help with this but at the same we were heavily involved in the war and did our part in damage and it was only right to help rebuild. But sending 15 billion seems like a little much. The task should have been on Europe to save their economy and infrastructure, not Americas. After the war we were also probably trying to make peace with every country we could make peace with. With all the damage that occured in WWII it does seem to help out a little with the rebuilding of other countries but America should not have that responsibility to provide money for other countries. 1.The Marshall Plan was put into play by Truman after WW2 to help around 16 European countries who had sustained tons of damage during the war. The US sent 13billion dollars to these countries in aid, food, fuel, and machinery and all this was also to help any of these countries from being taken over by communism and keeping communists at bay where they currently were. The economic growth of these countries grew exponentially in just 4 years and opened a lot of trading with the US as well as keeping all countries that were under the Marshall Plan non communist countries.(103)
ReplyDelete2.The US had a huge effort in stopping the war but was the only country involved that sustained pretty much zero damage and absolutely zero damage if you don’t count territory. For the US to help win the war and then to leave Europe high and dry in completely shambles unable to help itself or be vulnerable to being gotten to by the Soviets for help and having them all turn communists and are enemies pretty much without even getting any better while the US just goes back home and enjoys luxury would be a complete failure on our part and would make winning the war borderline pointless.(108)
On April 3, 1948 President Harry S Truman signed the Marshall plan, which its original name was the "Economic Recovery Act". It was named the Marshall plan after the Secretary of State George Marshall who was the one who proposed that the US provide help and relief in the economic areas for Europe and their postwar aftermath. Marshall thought that we should provide economic aid to Europe and Truman agreed. After Truman sent the proposal to congress the passed it on April 3, 1948. Throughout the next 4 years congress approved $13.3 billion for European recovery. Although this aid was specific for Europe, for the United States, the Mashall plan provided markets for American goods and created reliable trading partners. (120)
ReplyDeleteI would not necessarily say that America had a moral obligation, yes it did seem like we should help them out, but I dont think it was a need for us to. It defitently created good things to flow for America which I feel like had a big part to play. Why do something for another country if it won't help your own? Although yes you could put Europes blame on us, which where the obligation would come from, I dont think anyone should have felt forced. Helping them economically certaintly helped us in many ways which I feel had just as a big impact. (105)
On April 3, 1948 President Truman signed the “Economic Recovery Act of 1948”. Which eventually became known as the Marshall Plan, named after the Secretary of State Who held a speech st Harvard University on June 5, 1947, that proposed this European nations create a plan for their economic reconstruction and that the United States provide economic assistance. On December 19, 1947, President Harry S. Truman sent Congress a message that went alongside Marshall’s ideas to provide economic aid to Europe. Congress overwhelmingly passed the Economic Cooperation Act of 1948, and on April 3, 1948, President Truman signed the act that became known as the Marshall Plan. Once it was official congress used $13.3 billion for European recovery. Which eventually led to the US gaining reliable trade partners from the rebuilt European economies.(134)
ReplyDeleteI do not feel that America had a moral obligation to help out Europe. This is because of the fact we had already spent thousands of lives helping them out in WW2. Therefor, since we had already done all that for them we don’t owe them anything and they should be happy still to have that land to themselves. Although the US might’ve been primarily responsible for destroying some of their country we still didn’t have a moral obligation to do anything for Europe.101
The Marshall Plan
ReplyDeleteWith the end of World War II, the countries of Europe and Russia were in ruin. The United States was the only country that was not in ruin. The communist country of Russia had battled the German armies attacking Russia and won. The Russian army took control of all countries east of Germany including my home country of Poland. When Germany surrendered, all those eastern European countries, including East Germany, were part of the USSR and now under the communist government. The Marshall Plan was proposed by the US Security of State, George Marshall, to rebuild the ruined European countries to prevent them from becoming communist. (106).
Did America have Moral Obligation to Save Europe
It might appear that the United States of America reacted to a moral obligation to repair the damage of World War II. After all, it was our planes, tanks, and ships that laid waste to many cities, homes, transportation and historical monuments. I don’t think the British, French, Dutch, and Belgium peoples expected any repairs, because we came to save them and that was enough. We did rebuild Europe far more than the damage caused by our armies. However, we rebuilt it, not out of moral obligation, but because we wanted those people to resist the efforts by the communists to take over. There was no Marshall Plan for Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland and other eastern block countries, now under Soviet influence. (121)
While I read the sources provided the key most important details that I found about the Marshall plan that was developed in 1945 To stabilize the economic devastation that was going on in European countries The Soviet union controlled eastern Europe during the time of the economic downfall over the time period of four years there was $13.3 billion put into helping European countries gain their economic stability back all of this happened post World War II and really showed everyone’s true colors I believe this was extremely important for European countries given the fact that America and the Soviet union went on agreement to help everyone else out during the devastation this was also very important because it showed unity between the world
ReplyDeleteThe second question asked about these articles was that America have the obligation to help out European countries personally I believe that America was semi-stable during the time and I believe that it would be morally correct for Americans to help out the needs that other countries had during the time but I also believe that we should not give all of our resources to them just in case the situation were to happen to us I think what happened in Europe was terrible and I believe that the Marshall plan was put in the place to help out countries in need and I believe given the circumstances that America was semi-stable at the time and it would be morally incorrect for us to do anything different but to help with boundaries of the other countries
